An interesting read with great character development, and some very real concerns. The townspeople of Bourne were poisoned by a chemical company that never acknowledged their wrongdoing, or made amends. Many of the townspeople are affected by cancer, birth defects and more - to the point where wheelchair ramps and other special needs accommodations are part of their everyday life. Nora is the mother of triplet girls - Man, Monday, and Mirabel, who are now 16. Nora's life's mission has been a lawsuit against Belsum chemical - the company that produced GL606, the substance that polluted the town's water system and forever altered their lives.
Although I got irritated with the pacing, and the triple narrators - you, the reader hear from all three girls One, Two, and three - the way the girls humanity is explored, the way they fall in love (two with the same person) and the way they bond together to solve the mystery and try and save their town is worth sticking with the book. So many interesting points on how greed and money affect our society, especially those that are not able to make their own choices - our children. Should greed and profit and jobs matter over the environment? These are difficult questions, that are handled well in this novel. Another point that is made is are the handicapped and autistic less valuable members of society? A great book discussion choice.

teenage girls don’t get enough credit for this: their ability to see the potential import of everything, no matter how insignificant it seems, and analyse it endlessly. it’s written off. we’re written off as silly; but it’s the opposite. we understand instinctively that - like me - change is slow. if you’re not paying attention you‘ll miss it.

This book was excellent. I gave it some patience in not quite understanding the format or completely gelling with the voices of the three main characters right away but once it clicked, I was both thoroughly entranced and intrigued by the story and the mystery. I felt both hope and devastation in reading it. A solid start to my reading year!
