This book was unlike anything I've read recently, and I enjoyed it so much.
I loved the dynamic of the three sisters at the center of this story. I'm impressed at how distinctly the author wrote chapters for Mab, Monday, and Mirabel; I would have been able to tell who was narrating even without different voice actors.
The author explains the towns' background with stories interspersed throughout descriptions of current events. This format kept me intrigued while also building my sympathy for the people of Bourne. It's one of my favorite styles of writing.
🎧 The narration was fantastic. I listened at 1.5x speed. I did struggle a bit in the first half, when the chapters were mostly the sisters' inner monolouges or explanations, but I couldn't stop listening during the second half.
I recommend this book for fans of Fredrik Backman or Celeste Ng.

I always try especially hard to not compare an author's books. I HIGHLY anticipated One Two Three because of how deeply I love [book:This Is How It Always Is|40409102] - one of the best books I've ever read! One Two Three is VERY good, but I didn't get that same feeling - that warm, fuzzy feeling that Frankel gave me in TIHIAI.
.
That being said, I love how the story is told through the eyes of siblings One, Two, and Three - Mab, Monday, and Mirabel. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT THIS BOOK IS MEANT TO BE LISTENED TO! The narration is freaking AMAZING (thank you Libro FM!) and the story was so greatly enhanced because of the amazing voice actors that voiced each of the sisters.
.
This book runs in the same vein as Erin Brockovich and has an eerie similarity to the real life Flint Water crisis. There is amazing representation in this book, 2/3 narrators have a disability. The story will pull at your heartstrings, make you think, and leave you wanting social justice.
.
I feel I started the review off on a negative note by comparing it to the author's previous works and I just want to state that this is a GREAT BOOK and it should absolutely be read by everyone and anyone who appreciates learning, representation, great righting, and character-driven novels.

The Mitchell sisters, triplets named Mab, Monday and Mirabel all live in Bourne with their mother Nora. Mab is on Track A, the “smart” track that’s trying to prepare students for college or at least to leave Bourne. Monday is on Track B, where “their bodies work but their minds are typically neurodivergent,” as Monday is autistic. Mirabel is on Track C, because she’s physically disabled and relies on a wheelchair. Bourne as a town is full of disabled people either from birth defects or as a result of the chemical plant that was part of Bourne’s history for so long. When the grandson of the former chemical plant owner moves to town, the whole town is in an uproar-especially because they’re all involved in a class action lawsuit that was started by Nora. In a town where nothing changes, soon nothing will be familiar. This book had better be an instant best seller and on every single bookstagrammer’s “must read” list, because this book? THIS BOOK?! This book is incredible. This book highlights people with disabilities but it highlights them as *people* first and their disability is simply another part of them. An important part, yes but one that doesn’t make up the whole of who they are. It plays off Erin Brockovitch’s case but it exemplifies it to the extreme, which was fantastic to read about, because it talks about the consequences of poisoning the environment a generation later, rather than what is currently happening. I loved everything about this book.

This story follows three sisters born into a town where people have medical problems due to contamination from a local chemical plant. When the chemical plant wants to reopen some of the people in the town are tempted to stop fighting for justice for what the plant did and go back to work there in order to take care of their families. The tension between the townspeople trying to just survive and wanting to do the right thing was a big part of what I liked about this story.
Laurie Frankel tells this story from three different POV's and each sister feels independent and unique, but there's also a beautiful connectedness between the differing storylines. Some of this story felt more YA than an adult read, but when the main characters are teens you tend to expect that.
The environmental issues brought up were reminiscent of something you would read in a paper today, although some of it was sensationalized a bit it still felt believable.

This is a GREAT book. I waffling between 4 and 5 stars. I'm stingy with those 5 stars, but I know others won't be, and this book deserves those stars. This is my first book by LF, and I will be reading her others. I love the repeating One Two Three chapters. I love the perspectives of all 3 girls. I love every character, flaws and all. The plot is heartbreaking, and hopeful. It does a beautiful job with body and neuro diversity. It's a powerful story about how protecting our environment protects us. It's nearly perfect. I'm not sure if this is YA (and that's a good sign if it is indeed YA), but it's perfectly appropriate for young adult readers, and I will be giving it to my 14yo daughter to read.
