This book was a lot of fun to read. It felt kinda like a Rainbow Rowell book from a male perspective with lots of computer programming / social media stuff. I thought the contrast of old technology and new was really interesting and the story itself was compelling. Parts of the story felt formulaic but not in a bad way.

This quirky novel doesn't really belong on my mystery-crime shelf, there's no crime, but it does have some mysteries to solve and it doesn't fit anywhere else. So, there it is. It was a quick, fun read with some "ick" moments (his best friend's obsession with boobs was weird) and I hated the way his romantic relationship turned out (it was a big deal in the first half of the book and then the author just kind of forgot about it).

I feel no compunction to read the prequel short story or to read more from this author (although I'm not opposed to it). Overall, I enjoyed it. 3 solid stars

I don't give out 5 star reviews very often so believe me when I say how enjoyable this book was. I picked it up last year and did not finish it (can't remember why, but I was a fool for doing so) so I started over. I am so glad that I did. I have not read a book this charming, refreshing and enjoyable in ages. It totally appealed to my geek/maker sides. It has been so long since I've read a book in which every character has redeeming qualities (yes, even you Corvina). Highly, highly recommended.
