When Mao is supposed to leave the palace and her role as servant, Jinshi's disappointment - even if he is the one who thought she would like to leave - shows how much he didn't consider her as a toy, as he used to treat others. Their situationship also gets super interesting when he comes back to her, entering the brothel where Mao works, in order to buy her so that she can come back to the Palace. It is so touching and exciting, the way he wants to do anything to have her close to him! He surely developed feelings for her, through her hidden beauty, her 'apparent' disgust for him, and her clairvoyance.
