Kind of boring. I almost gave up half way. It started getting interesting so I kept at it only to find the ending pretty flat.

Young Emily has just lost her acting agent, her job, her apartment and has nothing else to lose when she meets Scott Denny. Scott the charismatic CEO is looking for a summer housekeeper to help his wife and small daughter on their beautiful French Estate. Emily embraces the changes and doesn't even seem to mind the remoteness and isolation of the large estate. She quickly makes friends with Nina who takes her in like family except for just a few strange rules....
We knew you were what we needed Scott tells her.
Emily feels she is in paradise and could stay here forever. If she finds things a little odd about the Denny's daughters illness, well what does she know? She tells herself that she's in a safe place to relax the Denny's are loving parents with only the best in mind for their sick daughter.
This is a debut novel and was inspired by Anna Downe’s experiences working as a live-in housekeeper on a remote French estate in 2009-10.
Fast paced entertaining suspense read. I will look forward to her next!

The Safe Place is eerie in all the right places!
Emily loses her job, her apartment and her agent all in one day, and despite all these challenges, was then offered the opportunity of a lifetime, to be a housekeeper for her previous employers wife and young child in the remoteness of France. A bit farfetched, but very intriguing none the less!
Off Emily goes to live on this estate, where she speaks no French, is weirded out by her employer's wife and young daughter, and the groundskeeper is just creepy all around.
Twists and turns my oh my throughout this book makes for an interesting read as you get to follow along with multiple narratives from different characters and perspectives.
This certainly felt and read so differently to any other thriller I have read and genuinely made my heart race!

The Safe Place was a good novel set in rural France and London. Many reviews state the plot is obvious but I couldn’t tell. Sometimes everything is not what it seems. This book read similar to novels by Liv Constantine like The Last Mrs. Parrish.
