This one was an average read for me. We had multiple points of view (both Emily and Scott with Nina thrown in from time to time) which I always enjoy.

From the beginning we see Emily have a really bad day which starts with losing her temporary job and agent. Then we have a chapter with Scott’s POV and we know from then that something is not right, we know he has something planned and that plan involves Emily.

Needing a job and now her former boss comes to’ her rescue’ with another job offer (The warning bells should have been going off right there Emily!) Emily takes it. She ends up in a secluded home with Scott’s wife Nina and their child Aurelia. But they are in the middle of nowhere with no phone reception or internet, and Nina will not let Emily into the family home. Emily is cut off from everything/everyone. Once Emily realizes things are amiss, it might already be too late.

I did not figure out the twist, but I should have as the signs were there. . It would be a bit of a predictable novel and the ending did not totally deliver. This is a first novel for Anna Downes and I would give her another try.

**Many thanks to the publisher Minotaur Books for sending me a copy to read and review**

The Safe Place was a very slow read... it wasn’t gripping the way thrillers normally grab you and make you question everything and rush to the end because you NEED to know what happens.

It was kind of like reading a diary of someone’s life?
There was excessive amounts of detail that took me out of the story rather than bring me in.

The book didn’t really get good until page 250...

With 50 pages left I thought to myself “nothing has really been established...”

The characters were all SO unlikable as well. I didn’t like a single one.

The premise and idea of the book is amazing, but the execution of it disappointed me. It left me wanting more... I wanted so badly to like it and just didn’t!

Rating: 3

I think this book was decent for a thriller. The premise was a bit interesting, but also familiar. I felt like a lot of the twists I had some idea of what they would be before they happened. This thriller does wrap up nicely and I enjoy how the character grew from the events of the story. If you need a summer read to read on the beach, I would totally recommend this.

Thank you Minotaur Books for the ARC!

I’m giving this a 3.5 out of 5. I struggled getting into this book. The beginning felt slow and honestly a tad boring, but it was nice I was able to relate to Emily’s character being mid-20s and not having a clue as to what was going on with her life. It really took me until the middle of the book to get into it. That’s where the thriller and mystery but really pick up. Once I did, I couldn’t put it down! There’s a great plot twist that comes out of nowhere and a lot of weird habits start finally making sense. I was sure I was gonna be upset with the ending because I thought it would just be left with a cliffhanger, but I wasn’t at all! Very pleased about that.
