A fantastic book set in Cardiff in the 1950s based on the true story of the grave injustice on Mahmood Mattan.

The author does a wonderful job of bringing flawed characters to life and interestingly in the author's note that her personal connection probably helped here. I also felt it was sympathetic to the victim and family who are often overlooked.

I felt the pacing was a bit off at times. It did drag in places but the ending and the trial was gripping, even though we know the outcome. I read about this case after finishing and what happened to the family afterwards too with very recent injustices until they all passed away. Thank you to the author for bringing it centre stage.

Compelling story but just couldn’t get on with the writing.
