Sue Grafton

3.6 AVERAGE

Didn't love it at all. Felt there was a lot of unnecessary info added to make the book longer. It was kind of boring and dry. Took me a while to read.

As I’m rapidly approaching the end of this series, I’m finding myself doing some pre grieving for these characters and this series. Knowing that there’s only one book left and that Grafton died before she could wrap it all up, I’m approaching these latter books with a sense of finality. Pretty soon, this multi year journey I’ve been on with these books will be over. They started out strong, started to sag in the middle and then came roaring back toward the end. This one is no exception. A lot of plot threads but they’re all handled so well. And for perhaps the first time, one of the mysteries is left unsolved and the suspect gets away. Kinsey remains a great character and Grafton always manages to give her such interesting side characters for her to spar and bounce information off of. I’ve enjoyed the ride I’ve taken with these books. And I’m ready to get off of the ride. One more to go. Kind of sad, kind of relieved. But also so grateful.

This was fine. 3 1/2 stars. More of a what-is-happening mystery than a whodunit.

This is my first book by Sue Grafton, and maybe that is why I didn’t enjoy it (as it is almost the end of a series), but the whole thing was a big ole “who cares” for me
