Is this a recommended read: Yes, especially if you enjoy philosophy or is just interested in learning about life from the perspective of a nihilist.
I will be back for this novel after I have learned French so I can read it in the original language.

On my second reading, "The Stranger" was not as good as I remembered. I still like parts of it, and in the overall philosophical bibliography of Camus it presents itself as a key text. But, as a work of fiction it does not have enough narrative force to get a four or five star rating out of me. Of course, it's hard to craft a long story that is engaging when the protagonist is a Bartleby-like character. I think Camus did as well as anyone could with such a mission statement.

The narrator was so dull and monotone and devoid of emotion, it would’ve been extremely difficult to get through this book if it were any longer. I am very surprised this book is as popular as it is. It had some good ideas and the last few pages were somewhat thought provoking but the rest… was just ok, in my opinion.
