I was not expecting to find this so gripping for a middle grade but I ended up flying through this and found it such a quick and easy read. I will definitely be continuing the series for some lighthearted mysteries.

I thought this was an okay book. I mean the first half of the book was a drag to get through. I mean it was fast pace read, but at the same time I could put it down and would not care to pick it back up. The main reason is Daisy as a character. I disliked Daisy as a secondary character. I thought Hazel could do better, but then the other girls at the boarding school are almost just as bad. Once I got past about half of the book and the mystery was starting to pick up then it kept my attention. And towards the end Daisy releases she has been such a bad friend and person that she slowly gets better as a character. I might continue with the series it depends on my mood.
I really love the way evidence were collected step by step, and the revelation part!! but I dont like some things with hazel & daisy friendship (or how they became friends) tbh :/

Pretty good mystery with a conveniently large amount of clues. There is the usual luck and fumbling of amateur detectives but since they are two girls, it is understandable. The main character is well developed as is her best friend but the "friend" acts superior and mean to the MC a bit much for my taste. There is a glossary at the back for anyone that is out of touch with British school girl slang. Unfortunately, I didn't find it until the END of the book.

Thrilling story with fabulous cast of characters. I loved the setting, the gently woven topics such as racism and the excellent pace of the story. It is little wonder this is a best selling book.
Read for the 2020 O.W.L.s readathon
HERBOLOGY: Mimbulus mimbletonia - title starts with an M
I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!!!
There is so much I loved about this book:
- It is set in 1934
- It is set in an all-girls English boarding school
- The detectives are two young girls, one is English and one is from Hong Kong
- Hazel is so adorable
- Daisy really grows on you
- THERE IS A MURDER!!!
- There is a final description of the murder + reveal of the culprit in front of all the suspects (I love this in books by Agatha Christie and I loved finding it here as well)
It was just fabulous. I loved all the English terms that are used throughout, and yeah just how very English the whole thing was.
The murder was so compelling, I devoured the book because I was so curious to find out the culprit. While this is a middle-grade book, the language and the situations were simple, but really not too simplified, and the mystery was complex regardless.
I had an intuition on the culprit, not because of clues being sprinkled in badly, but simply because I had a "feeling" ahaha I was still very shocked to find how who did it and the reason why! Wow it was great, and you can bet I will pick up the next book soon.
