A quick-moving, nicely structured novel narrated by a schizophrenic young man who feels responsible for his brother's accidental death when they were children. I went back and forth between liking the changes in font and the included drawings and feeling like they were a little gimmicky, but overall I think they were effective. I read this for my Debbie Downer book club (all sad books!), but it didn't end up being as sad as you might think.
Such a beautiful account of trauma, grief and mental illness. The author grips you to the story from the start by the way it was written. I felt sad for the narrator Matt and at so many times I wanted to cry! Such incredible story! Thank you Nathan Filer!
This book gave me this quite unpleasant feeling. Like I was about to be dropped on the trailes under a train.
Tremenda decepción con un libro que habían inflado muchísimo y es una mala copia de "El curioso incidente...". En ningún momento conectas con el personaje, ni la historia, ni el estilo... Give me my money back.

"That's a fear when someone you love dies isn't it? Especially if you're only young when it happens, you might worry that over time you'll stop being able to picture them properly. Or that the sound of their voice will merge into other voices, so that you can no longer be sure how it was they sounded."
Very easy to read and quite engrossing. Clever use of fonts throughout the book. Even though you establish what's coming early on you want to see the journey through with Matthew.
This is an excellent, and somewhat distressing, novel about a young man living with schizophrenia and the mental health system. We live through his current experiences and his memories, and the 'ghost' of his beloved brother Simon.
This book! Wow! I have never read a book quite like it. There are plenty of books about grief, the death of a sibling, mental illness however they all seem a little fake and everything gets neatly tied up at the end in a nice big red bow where the main character has accepted the death and no longer has any mental problems. However the world is not like that and neither is this book.
At the start of this book I didn't think it was going to be very good, the writing seemed a bit all over the place and it did make it quite confusing so I was thinking about not continuing with it but I thought I'd give it ago because everyone says it's such a great book. I am so glad that I pushed on! The story is supposed to be confusing and jumbled up as the main character is just writing about his story as it comes to him, he may decide to talk about his dad but then get distracted by the nurse so will talk about her instead. This is a really interesting way to read a book, it is like a jigsaw puzzle, you know all the pieces however you do not find them in the correct order but by the time you finish the book you can see how they all slot together and form the bigger picture.

Interesting story but given it's narrated by a guy with serious mental health issues following his brothers death, and he jumps around a LOT, it can be hard to follow in places!
