This was better than the other three in this series, but they still just don't match up to the standard the original series set. I liked the unexpected twists and turns involving Hawkfrost, and look forward to finding out the truth of what happened.

Have this series audiobook play for my 2nd grader while we drive. She loves it and I do too. Hits on some real life topics and relationship development.
Squirrelflight is very frustrating in this book, more than ever; to a lesser extent, so is Leafpaw/pool. No wonder everyone thinks women are bonkers!
Spoiler
Squirellflight has it easy, she'll never understand what it's like to have siblings in other Clans; she can talk to her sister anytime without anyone questioning her loyalties, and her father is a hero, not a villian. She has no sympathy. And if Leafpool would stop being a coward about someone finding out that she trespassed on Riverclan territory, territory they no longer live in, she'd tell Brambleclaw what she saw instead of letting Squirrelflight relay it secondhand (causing Brambleclaw to think she's lying).
3.5! I love these books. I loved seeing all the clans not only settle new territories, but struggle to separate into four clans again. I wonder if the rest of this arc will just be the sort of bad seeds causing trouble...less about clan rivalries.
It's always good to see spottedleaf!! And bluestar. I love learning more about the role of starclan in the four clans' lives and faiths. I sort of realized toward the end when starclan said it took them a while to travel there as well...it's more than just the cats' religion. Starclan really is also like the fifth clan.
Hawkfrost is really interesting in this book, and I enjoyed how much of a role he played. I always like how real-life/human problems show up in these books, like found family vs blood, and how some people judge others for the sins of their parents. I loved seeing tigerstar appear to brambleclaw and hawkfrost in a dream, and hope it comes up again! And if tigerstar isn't with starclan, is he sort of a rogue in the skies? It's all so interesting!! Lol.
I always love leafpool, but I'm def not behind this apparent romance with crowfeather. Meh. I'm also very much over squirrelflight and brambleclaw having their sort of teenage feud. Just when I think squirrelflight is maturing and brambleclaw is carving his own path, they're both set back in some way. Maybe I also don't like when cats have romantic relationship drama. They're good together, and it's really frustrating to see them arguing.
But! Still a good installment. I'm interested to see what comes of that eerie prophecy/message 😳
