4.0

Three stars for the first story, “The Rum Cake Runner.” It wasn’t absolutely terrible, but it wasn’t nearly as much fun or as good writing as it easily could have been. The ending felt abrupt and unresolved. Four stars for the second story, “The Smell of Victory,” which was funny and endearing as all hell. It perfectly portrayed what it’s like to be acutely uncomfortable in your own body as a teenager. And finally, five stars for the magnificent final story, “The World Without Hindenburg.” It is a vivid, evocative window into a pivotal moment of four young people’s lives. I absolutely loved it.

Overall, I would say this issue is absolutely worth the cost. Four stars.
