Much weirder than even I was expecting. I feel very uncertain about if I had any idea of what was going on at pretty much any point. But the atmospheres were so well realised and the imagery was so creepy I couldn't help but be on board. I do feel like I was constantly missing something though aha

meditations (ruminations?) on surveil ance, technocratic paternalism, work, gender and maternity(?). unreliable narrator and an aversion to anything concrete:

‘Books that search for a conclusion and closure are at risk of disappointing their readers. Conclusions dampen the impulse to innovate and to imagine.’

the prose was very beautiful and opaque but to be honest i found i wasn't gripped, which made the other features of the novel hard work
