Another great novel by Zijin Chen. All the characters were great, the story unfolded fantastically, and the ending was perfectly executed. Definitely a banger. I hope more of Chen's work is translated to English because I really enjoy it.

dude this book is messed up lmao

the plot is wild and follows a person's descent into cruelty, i kept wanting to turn the page to figure out what would happen next.
i also liked the open ending! not because i was rooting for chaoyang, but i think it's an interesting choice in contrast to chinese culture's emphasis on morality.

i do have some critiques, but i'm not sure how much of it is applicable to the original novel or whether it should only be leveled at this translated version. my main gripe is that this story is written with absolutely no style. it's simply a running description of what's happening, as though the translator directly translated the original text in the most straightforward way possible. besides chaoyang, i don't think the other characters were fleshed out well too, they felt too simplistic.

there's actually a tv series based off the original book that i think is definitely worth a watch. the script has been rewritten quite substantially, the characters and their motivations are much more nuanced. although i haven't finished watching it yet, i prefer it over the book so far.

In laws, not many people like there in laws at all and many just don't like being replaced either when they find out who there father or mother really is, a mena some don't like this sort of outcome, and sometimes it can lead to a crime so perfect you could get away with it.
I loved this book from start to finish a mean yes the chapters are short but wow didn't didn't I not fly through this book, no complaints at all, the plot and characters made this book so good not to put down.
I recommend this book if you are into this kind of genre and short chapters too.
And like I said before not many like there in laws especially when you can't even choose them yourself.
