A gripping and moving short e-story for a few tidbits in preparation for Jennifer Weiner’s upcoming novel (April, 2014) ALL FALL DOWN.

Like Jodi Picoult and Amy Hatvany, Weiner is not afraid to tackle raw and emotional (sometimes controversial) subject matter. Their stories are heartfelt and help other relate to those with drug, sex, alcohol, and other addictions. Full of suspense, secrets, and redemption.
Shannon Will is close to 30 yrs. old and has been in and out of rehab many times; however, continues to get caught back up in the drama of addiction. At her lowest she decides to start over and gets a new cell phone (her parents pay for it). However, the when she gets the new # the rep at the phone company is programmed in and for some odd reason she is receiving desperate texts from someone to help her. Shannon decides she has to help!

Looking forward to reading All Fall Down in 2014 and her new book coming 2015 the FWord. As usual, Jennifer knows how to write and entertain with cutting edge material.

Every so often it is nice to sit and read a short story and just enjoy a full story in one sitting! It is also awesome when that story comes from an author that I know that I will love!

Jennifer Weiner is known for fantastic "women's fiction" and this short story had a great suspenseful twist at the end! Of course I will not spoil!

Shannon is an addict who can't find the motivation to quite her ways and leave the friends who keep her in the dark place of addiction. So as she finally turns over a new leaf and gets a new phone with a new number to disconnect her from her previous ways, she starts getting weird text messages and must make a big decision.

As short stories must have, it was easy to get to know this main character and want to know what her short journey would be. Also, the conclusion was awesome - I was sad to see it end, but wouldn't mind a full novel based on this character.

Not my favorite Weiner book. It's a short story and a significant departure in tone from her others--not the light, breezy, but still somewhat substantial reading I have come to expect from her.

This was a really weird take on drug addiction. I'm not sure how well I like this one.

Disconnected is a short story by Jennifer Weiner about a young addict after rehab who tries to make a fresh new start but is constantly facing old demons and is never really able to become Disconnected. This was a suspenseful short with a well thought out final twist.

After her sixth attempt at rehab, Shannon finally decides to embrace sobriety, faithfully attending meetings and make and effort to rebuild her life. In following the advice of her sponsor to cut all ties with her former life, Shannon decides to get a new phone but almost immediately she begins to receive strange texts from an unknown caller which threaten to derail her recovery.

This isn't a story I expected from Jennifer Weiner but it bears the hallmarks of her stylish, tight writing. A dark story of addiction, tempered by a quest for redemption, with a surprise paranormal twist, Disconnected packs quite a punch despite its diminutive length.

I checked this out on audio from my local library not realizing it was 'a short.' That said this was a truly enjoyable read that left me with that AH at the end with where the story went.
