The Suicide Squad/Harley Quinn comics are always my top pick. This one is no exception.

I'm rather put out that I have to start the story of the Suicide Squad all over again (actually like New52 better thus far). Roughly 1/2 of this book is actual story, 1/4 is backstory and 1/4 is just random panels of art, which are quite nice to look at, but if I had actually paid for this I'd be a bit put out by the lack of story line.
That said, the art was beautiful, the story we did get was cool, and the back story is kind of nice too.
All in all I wasn't impressed by this one book, but I shall reserve judgement until I read to next before I rule out the new series.

I was just trying this out but this was definitely not what I expected.Suicide Squad is not one of my favorite comics out there but I like Harley Quinn, so you could say I was reading this for her.

The mission was over fast and that felt quick but I have the second volume too so I might give it another try.

There is just too much going on here. We rush into the whole concept of a Suicide Squad and throw them all in ridiculous situations. Yes, that is the point, but we don't cover any of the characters backstories until the end of this volume. We don't care if any of the Suicide Squad does end up dying because we don't know who they are other than Harley Quinn. Sure, they are the same cast that appears in the 2016 movie, but that movie doesn't give much backstory, other than Deadshot and Harley, either. They end up having to face against General Zod and a Russian version of the Suicide Squad. Like, let's just pick a super powerful alien and then throw in a bunch of Russian-controlled villains to fight. It didn't need both, one would have been enough of a threat, and nothing really compares to a Kryptonian anyway. A bunch of Suicidal humans would not be enough to defeat one. Add in the fact that the journey to and the setting itself were pretty deadly, nothing was particularly believable, just ridiculous.

*I received this through the netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

My first introduction to the Suicide Squad was during the new 52 universe. I fell in love with these characters and found myself rooting for the bad guys. I will gladly root for Harley Quinn in any given day. The Rebirth series is a fresh new look into the Task Force X. There are some new characters introduced in the mix (which I'm sure was heavily influence by the release of the Suicide Squad movie last year).

The graphic novel begins, as due most Suicide Squad graphic novels due, in complete and utter chaos. The task force is led into a violent situation and left in the dark by the leader of this organization, Amanda Waller. The Suicide Squad somehow manages to escape and on the other side of that is their new leader, Rick Flag.

In this first volume a lot happens without their being much plot advancement. There are some surprise visits from some beloved villains of the DC world, the Suicide Squad fight for their lives and it's all topped off with the humor I loved so much in the New 52 comics. It was a solid start to this Rebirth and I am excited to learn more.

One of my favorite things about this first volume is that you get a background story of some of the suicide squad members. Some of their backstories are altered a bit but it gives you an insight into their villainous minds. The absence of El Diablo, King Shark, and YoYo left me a bit sad, but as long as my favorite psychotic queen is there then I can forgive everything else. Great start and I'm ready for more.
