I was glad this was a short read because there were things that annoyed me about if from the start. It could have used a lot of editing because it came across as sloppy.

Spoiler For example, the timeline was off. If Lainey fell pregnant at sixteen and the story begins when she was twenty then logically the youngest Cassidy could be is three (taking into account a margin for a nine month pregnancy which could have ended when Lainey was seventeen) and no older than four. Yet in the very first chapter, the kid is still wearing nappies and not speaking properly. If the kid had some sort of learning difficulties that were going to become part of the story then fine, but my kid absolutely was not in nappies at the age of three, wasn't still eating pureed fruit and could speak in proper sentences. Further on in the book, two years later in fact, Cassidy is apparently four and then suddenly becomes five a couple paragraphs on...!

The antagonist, Chip, apparently changes his name halfway through from Chip Peters to Chip Holt and then back to Chip Peters again (?)

Similarly at one point Lainey is working in the bar, Stacks, and then a few sentences later Cassidy has apparently taken her place.

I also didn't really like any of the characters, none of them seemed particularly dynamic. It's as though there were lots of potential avenues the story could explore but they dwindled to nothing. For example, Lainey's relationship with her mother. It all just felt a bit anti-climatic to be honest. All of the trouble with Chip could have been avoided immediately if Lainey had had a spine and told someone instead of running away. I thought there was going to be something more with the jersey-chasing babysitter, Dani, who Nick warns Lainey not to hire but nothing more is said about it so I'm not sure what the value of it was either.

Having read a couple of Jen Frederick's books previously and enjoyed them, this one left me pretty underwhelmed, sorry.

While I liked this book, I can't say that I loved it. I liked the premise- a young girl gets pregnant and is trying desperately to raise her daughter on her own, struggling to make ends meet without the support of the child's father. Along comes a pro athlete who falls for them. I really loved the characters- especially Nick and Lainey... and Cassidy. There were some struggles for me when it came to the writing, though. There were mix-ups with names, the timeline was inconsistent, and things were given away sooner than they were supposed to be. Those things- while seemingly minor- really bother me in a book. Again, I liked the plot, and I think with some fine-tuning, this would have been more successful for me.

Damn, I‘m disappointed. I didn’t see any chemistry between the main characters, and all the grammatical mistakes and mixing up characters names annoyed me to no end. Add in a few logical errors. I really don’t think this was edited at all.

I didn’t read the first book of this series so I can‘t say anything about the two books obviously overlapping. And judging from this mess, I‘m not going to read it.

I ran through a gamut of emotions while reading Lainey's List. At times I was annoyed. Or so very angry, those angry times usually were because of Chip, man I hated that motherfucker. Nick and Lainey made me angry too because of choices they made or didn't make but my anger for them was never on the level as what it was for Chip. Just thinking about him now is getting me angry. Sometimes sad, other times so giddy with happiness but overall I truly enjoyed it. I loved going on this sometimes frustrating journey with Nick and Lainey. That epilogue, there are no words for my love for it. Although bittersweet I loved it.

Lainey's List was released as a weekly serial through the author's newsletter from October 30 2015-December 9 2016

Be Mine is very different from Lainey's List in a lot of ways with the exception of a few scenes and my hate for Chip, that didn't change. I enjoyed Nick and Lainey's journey even when it was frustrating at times. The typos, wrong names, fluctuating time lines etc. really distracted and took away from the story and my overall enjoyment of it.

It pains me to say I didn’t like this book as much as I have other Jen Frederick books. Full review to come.

Quick Info
Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone
Part of a Series?: Yes
----------------------------------
Meeting the Characters
Nick Jackon
Lainey
----------------------------------
What happens?
Nick is the rookie quarterback working with an ex of Lainey. We meet Lainey when her ex is stopping off for a meeting at the football club when he has been coerced to bring her along.
Nick is unable to forget the pretty woman who is a single mum and struggling to make ends meet. He is unable to forget her when she disappears for 2 years when Chip threatens to ruin her.
Final thoughts
This was emotive and I really enjoyed reading this.
My only annoyance is the ending feels rushed. There is suddenly a big thing that happens and its wrapped up with a bow. I'm not mad at the ending but it would have been better longer? Or at least more to it. Still a good read and good characters.
Would I read again?: Yes
Would I read this author again?: Yes

I appreciate how Nick doesn't just bulldoze into Lainey's life. He has the money and fame but he's just like his father. And Lainey is a good mom but too bad she didn't speak up sooner about Chip. I'll definitely will be reading again!

Be Mine was my very first Jen Frederick book and I REALLY liked it. I loved Charlotte, Nick, Lainey (even though she drove me crazy at times), and especially Cassidy. Whenever Nick was caring for Cassidy it felt like my ovaries might explode. It was that sweet!!! I don't know if I despised a character as much as I despised Chip.

I felt like the book needed another read through since I noticed quite a few mistakes. I also felt like there were a few holes. Like the character Reese. He was supposed to be a close friend, but he was only mentioned maybe a total of three times and didn't have any dialogue.

I'm off to go check out all of Jen's other books now.

Loved it! ❤️❤️

This was almost as good as the Charlotte Chronicles. I loved this book. Nick and Lainey and Cassie....what a wonderful story. I just loved it all the way around.

This book needs serious editing.
Also the story was way over the top and asburd.
It’s supposed to be a romance book but nothing happens , literally nothing until basically the end.
After the 68% i started skimming.
