I love Mo Willems' books, especially the Pigeon books.

The moral of the book: Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. Like that cute little puppy you want might actually be a vicious beast of fur and teeth. I guess the point of this book is to discourage kids from wanting puppies? Like if you're a parent and your kid has asked you twelve-gajillion times for a puppy you can read them this book and tell them what scary monsters puppies actually are. Or something. I dunno. I didn't like this one as much as the other two Pigeon books I read.

I just love all the pigeon books, and this one will be perfect for my toddler story time.

Not as good as the other pigeon books. It was OK but not that funny.

I didn't want to like this one. The idea is kind of boring. The art as always in these pigeon books is not all that interesting. But the twist was great. And the last twist on top made the twist even better. Laugh out loud funny. And hey your kid asks for a puppy, this is one way not to say no.

Oh pigeon...

Mother Tongue Notes: Great for practice of expressive reading. Good conversation starter. What does a puppy owner really need to do for his/her pet? What kind of pet do you have or want? Will the pigeon be happy with his second choice? What did you wish for, but didn’t like it when you got it?

2021 reread notes: What does a puppy need vs. what does a plant need? Walrus= valross.

I've really, really, really liked the other Pigeon books. This one, however, didn't do much for me. Not sure if it was the story, the increased detail in the drawings, or if I'm just growing tired of a petulant pigeon (let's hope not).
