I am not the target audience. I sometimes have a hard time suspending disbelief for middle grade and a book on a 13 year genius Shuri was hard. I also had a hard time adjudicating to this book version having only been exposed to the movie timeline. I have never read the original source material so I don’t know what’s cannon, but for me it’s the movies.
I’ll be gifting this book along with the signed poster to someone who can enjoy and appreciate the work. It’s really a beautiful edition and I love the maps at the beginning (I’d picked them up a couple years ago during Independent Bookstore Day).

I guess this is a few years before the movie, but I kept thinking why is T'Challa fighting all at full strength in Black Panther suit? How is that fair?
I feel it might have made the whole threatened heart flower plot point more critical if he stopped his power at every challenge.

Read with my students. Liked it but will keep as a classroom library book rather than a read aloud book.

Strong female lead? ✅ STEM master? ✅ Action and adventure? ✅ Black Panther storyline? ✅ This book had it all! Nic’s humor could be seen on every page and I know this will be a huge hit with the students when we go back. Thanks Edelweiss for an ARC of this book! All opinions are my own.

This is fun story about Shuri who is the sister of the Black Panther. She’s younger in this story than in the movie. The story centers around the fact that the crop of vibranium is dying and they are not sure why. Shuri goes on an adventure with a lot of her inventions to try to solve the mystery. It’s a fun book for a marvel fan.

Really just picked this up because I love Nic Stone and her YA books. Didn’t think I would end up loving this middle school Marvel novel. It was so good, and I am so glad there are more in the series!

I loved the fact that a young girl is her nation's leading scientist! AND that she wasn't an anomaly. Young, gifted, women, leading and shaping their communities- what every book should be about!

Such a fun Middle Grade novel! Very well written and once I was invested, it was hard to put down. It was a little bit of a slow start but worth it.
