Really just picked this up because I love Nic Stone and her YA books. Didn’t think I would end up loving this middle school Marvel novel. It was so good, and I am so glad there are more in the series!

Strong female lead? ✅ STEM master? ✅ Action and adventure? ✅ Black Panther storyline? ✅ This book had it all! Nic’s humor could be seen on every page and I know this will be a huge hit with the students when we go back. Thanks Edelweiss for an ARC of this book! All opinions are my own.

I loved the fact that a young girl is her nation's leading scientist! AND that she wasn't an anomaly. Young, gifted, women, leading and shaping their communities- what every book should be about!

Such a fun Middle Grade novel! Very well written and once I was invested, it was hard to put down. It was a little bit of a slow start but worth it.

Anika! Noni! Rose! Narrates! This! Audiobook! Drop everything you are doing and listen to Rose's voice of pure gold bring so much warmth to Shuri and this story. Nic Stone writes a short but fun tale that further illuminates us on a favorite character from Black Panther, the sassy and indomitable younger sister Shuri. We get to know more about Shuri and T'Challa's relationship and familial vibes and go into depth with Shuri's scientific talents. As T'Challa prepares for his upcoming challenge, Shuri must step up and save the day when she notices the special herb that brings the Black Panther their powers is dying out. Enlisting the help of her super fashionista and Dora Milaje-in-training best friend Katara, the two traverse the globe with the help of another Marvel character, further bringing together the different storylines of the universe. This was a quick and delightful listen that is perfect for young and old Marvel fans alike.

This book was a lot of fun! I listened to it on audio on a road trip and it certainly made the miles fly by. Anika Noni Rose was a *fantastic* narrator - she brought every character and the whole story to life with her great accents and voices.

The story itself was interesting and action packed - it makes me so excited for the next Black Panther movie because we got to dive so much into the character of Shuri. Some of the details were actually a bit different than they were in the movies, which confused me a bit, but didn't bother me significantly. Shuri is a great character, and I look forward to some possible follow-ups to this novel.

This book was a lot of fun to read, and I picked a great time to venture to Wakanda! The action of the book was engaging, and I loved how Shari’s passion for Science as well as her family, friends, and kingdom came through. The mission logs were some of my favorite parts because they gave me insight into what was going on in her head, and as a reader, I found myself wanting to know her young character better. However, a more action and plot driven book is appropriate for the junior high target audience of the book. I loved the feminism of the book and think Shuri is a great role model for girls. I’m excited to continue sharing this book with my middle school students. The Instagram release party with Nic Stone and Jason Reynolds had such a positive feel to it. This book is the positivity that we all need right now. I love Wakanda!
