Just a brief review on the base text of the book (notes on annotations to come)

I'm not usually a fan of this style of writing, and I felt that i didn't really get into the story until the interlude chapter (over halfway through). I chose to listen to the audiobook version of the base text so as not to be distracted by the annotations, which I am extremely drawn to. SOT = 3.5/5

Update: i adored reading Jennifer and Eric in the margins. So much of Jennifer not Knowing what she wants so do and not wanting to try resonated deeply with me, but Eric's encouragement throughout was so lovely for me to read. Obviously the Annotations aren't linear and so it can be confusing in places but just go with the flow and you'll figure it out! Annotations 4.5/5

Overall rating= 4/5. (:

A fantastic read, with more than one story line to keep track of. While difficult to follow at times and occasionally confusing the way this book was written makes you feel like you are intruding on a very private and intimate conversation. You are given a secret look into the lives of Eric and Jen while simultaneously leaving you wanting for more. Absolutely loved it!

This book absolutely mesmerized me. It is a very slow read, and often takes time to really dig in to understand what it happening, but overall the two characters in the margins have a beautiful story, and the book they are writing in also gives important perspectives on life that I really appreciated. I loved the way this was set up, and while I didn’t always follow the discussions happening in the margins, this book made me feel like I was part of something important, and that’s why I gave it such a high rating!

"What begins at the water shall end there, and what ends there shall once more begin.”

When I discover this book I immediately wanted to read it. It's a book with two stories that are linked and told by using mixed media. I found that concept to be interesting and immediately brought it! I was so excited that when I got the book in my hand, I started reading it almost immediately. And I don't do that very often.

I think my excitement may have been also the main culprit for the 3-star rating. I started reading the book, and I was really liking it. However, as my excitement started dying down, my enjoyment of the story also started to decrease. Don't get me wrong. This is a "me" problem and not a "book" problem. The story is really interesting, full of plot twists and surprising outcomes, and the mixed media is really interesting, as are the characters. However, the slow pacing and the dying of my excitement got the best of me, and that had an impact on my experience.

weird, engaging, fun, and confusing. i loved this book and i need more from it lol. i like where it ended and it was a satisfying read! it was definitely nice to read something gimmicky but with a strong narrative and enticing characters and all that. while there are things that i find somewhat imperfect with the book, i think it comes together in a way that is great.
