Book 29 of 2018 was The Secret by Rhonda Byrne ✨ I’ve been reading this book for a few days and to some extent I do agree with #thesecret. However I disagree with some parts. For example, your loved ones dying or getting sick you have somehow wished that to happen to them. Eh?! Come again 🤷🏼‍♀️ And how wishing you had a million pounds that will automatically happen. Yes it may happen but you have to work hard and achieve before you reap the rewards. I am a naturally positive person. I surround myself with people who make me happy and giggle over silly things. Life is short and no one should be spending time with people who bring them down. 5/10

Poorly formatted. This is just the written script of documentary video with some commentary.

Content is law of attraction called “The Secret,” I wasn’t a fan of the authors terminology but whatever it’s law of attraction in new clothes.

The format of the book is TERRIBLE. I read this from a friends recommendation so I chugged through and it was unpleasant. It should have been a book I didn’t finish.

There are books and youtube videos (heck even tiktoks!) with the same message and much better execution.

I have the audiobook & movie & both are great. I've noticed that after listening 2 & viewing the movie, I chose 2 be a more positive person. I recommend this book 2 everyone - especially those who feel that life's kicking their butt left & right. This is a great book (& movie!) 2 refer 2 again & again.

here's what i gather is the spectrum of people who've read this. on one end are the skeptical brow raisers wondering who the hell would eat this up. on the other end, said people eating this up.

i'd consider myself living almost exactly in the middle. this book grabs the age-old belief of delulu is the solulu and takes it to the fucking BANK.

and honestly? i was kinda living for it. to me, this is camp.

if you're cool with unbelievably convenient anecdotes, claims that have no evidence whatsoever, ummmm fatphobia (my healing relationship with my body allowed me to spend that whole section cackling but rhonda...girl.) and really just having your brain feel like it's resting in a warm-but-not-warm-enough bucket of water for a few hours: go ahead and check this out.

in short: was this a good book? no. would i read it again? not really. but do i think what's being said in it is legit? also no. would i recommend it? ehhhhh no.

Put this book on my 'To Read'.
Changed it's tag from that to 'Reading' and 'Read' within a day. I am maintaining the same level of dedication for what's to come. :)

While I believe in the power of positive thinking, meditation and gratitude, this book takes things to an unbelievable level. From wishing cancer away, to misinterpreting capitalism and wealth distribution this book has it all. It encourages victim blaming and relies on misguided interpretations of science. Absolute rubbish.
