Thoughts

This had some AMAZING stories in it. Like some that will stay with me forever. I knew by the title that this one was going to pack a punch and it really did.

This is a horror short story collection and there are some pretty terrifying things in here, however, I don't think there is a lot that would cause nightmares or make you nervous.

There were a couple of stories that weren't for me. But I think the ones that were are so good that it totally nakes up for it.

Horror peeps pick this one up!!

This collection of short stories and poetry was absolutely phenomenal! I am so glad I read it for the January @blackwalnutbooks Indigenous & Lit Book Club.

Francine’s collection is mostly told in first person, with a few third person stories, like Mickey’s Bar. It was so hard to choose the ones that stood out to me because this is packed with such engrossing characters, slices of their lives & navigating their motivations & situations.

I will absolutely read more from Francine in the future 🤍

This was such an interesting read.

I’m almost certain there were more ties between the stories than I realised while reading, because the smell of lavender and lemon kept popping up and there were names I was sure I’d seen earlier in other stories. Would be interesting to reread and hopefully connect the dots I missed.

There was only really one story I genuinely didn’t get and a few I didn’t love but even still the writing held my interest.

Invisible Publishing has done it again folks! A good collection that I will be thinking about for many moons to come.

Hard to pick a favourite so here’s a quote I noted down instead:

This feeling crawls up my spine, takes my vertebrae one step at a time like a ladder.”

This book is a series of stories that resemble weird dreams I’ve had that I forget after being awake for a whole 10 seconds.

This is such a solid collection of short stories but I 'Mickeys Bar' was a definite stand-out for me. I found it eerie and haunting, and yet somehow so peaceful.
