Crab Cake: Turning the Tide Together by Andrea Tsurumi

Various sea animals are portrayed "doing what they do," all of which are realistic except for the crab, who bakes cakes. When a barge dumps a bunch of garbage, the animals are scared and silent until crab shows up with a cake, bringing the sea community together. The animals come up with a plan, working together to get rid of the humans' trash. What elements are realistic? What do you think are unrealistic? Why? Also good for Earth Day displays.

Cute and with a pretty good message! Definitely thought it was going to be sillier than it ended up being.

This book is super simple and yet so profoundly amazing.

Sea creatures doing what they do best. Crab making cakes.

This book explores the power of community as well as dealing with the environmental fragility of our oceans. It has a fun blend of science fact with fiction and I applaud the author for this fantastically cute book.

Such a delightful mix of good science and humor and awareness. Sea creatures can't clean up the ocean themselves, any more than a crab can bake a cake. Will make great discussion with small people.

Perfect for Earth Day. Everyone does something under the waves. Crab is a little different. He makes cakes. His dedication to his craft helps the animals when a large load of trash destroys their homes.

This book is fun but with a great message. The little tidbits of information about each ocean animal will enthral kids. Speech bubbles with humour - yes please. The personalities expressed by @atsurumi are captivating and engaging and while crab bakes a cake they work together to overcome a huge problem. It’s not a surprise why this book is on so many best lists - it truly will be magical in the hands of young readers and that’s what it’s all about.

Carries the message about keeping our oceans clean and keeping human garbage out of the ocean.
