Darn it America, I wanted to love you but you make it so hard. The artwork is beautiful, the characters are unique, the worlds are endearingly weird... But I find the plot incomprehensible. Maybe it's me, I'm not firing on all engines at present, but I feel like I should be able to follow a comic story. Ultimately, I'm not engaged in America's journey or her challenges. I was ready to give up - until I saw Kate Bishop and a certain dog gracing the cover of the next issue. So maybe one more...

America manages to defeat the nemesis that continued to haunt her girls. Here we meet additional characters that will influence her future as well as get glimpses of her backstory.

The pace is off and I'm not really excited about seeing this become a team-up with Hawkeye's writer. There's potential and I want to route for my queer latina queen, but this issue was not a strong one.

This series continues to be one of the most unique, diverse on-going series from Marvel right now.

This picks up where we left off with America battling the creature from the first issue. To defeat it, she has to become one with the chaos and come up with a plan. It's a pretty interesting fight. Admittedly, I'm still not sure how the Chavez Guerrilla helped in this battle? I like what they stand for, though.

I feel like this issue tried to redeem Lisa but I still get bad vibes from her. I really enjoyed the material about America's moms. I've been curious about them since the YA series. I want to know more about them. I gotta say, the little bits and pieces of America's past that we see in this series is really interesting. I want a lot more of that.

One of the things I appreciate most about this series is that it's women empowering women and looking up to female heroes. I love that America received advice from Peggy and Storm. I love that the Chavez Guerrilla were inspired by America. I love that America's moms were heroes.

The cover for the next issue has my Amerikate senses tingling. Please, Marvel, let them be a thing. I will forgive you for CW II, I promise. Please, please, please!

My Thoughts On: America #4

1. The flashback to America's moms actually killed me. They're superheroes who have to sacrifice themselves to save their world, but they are also mothers who worry about their daughter and don't want to leave her. Plus, America somehow sensing they're gone... Heartbreaking!

2. I'm still not sure why this villain was not killed by America's punch, but I have a feeling that we are going to find out soon.

3. The leader of the Chavez Guerillas being so mad that America was leaving and not realizing that she was doing it to save them is so poignant to me because this girl just wants one of her heroes to stay and be there for her, and America can't, not right now. I know how that feels, and it's also a nice parallel to America and her moms.

4. My favorite quote of the issue: "Peggy told me to plan it out, that I could find the answer if I just looked hard enough. Storm said to center myself in the chaos. No one has ever told me that before. It's like they gave me permission to be a damn supernova."

5. What's better than America Chavez? Two America Chavez sassing each other and slightly messing with a timeline.

6. Second best quote? "On that one-in-a-million chance when life actually gives you a do-over, you better make sure you get it right. Or the universe might swallow you whole once and for all."

7. Oh, Prodigy, you little rule-breaker! I would definitely steal an aircraft to help America Chavez, though, so I do understand.

8. How happy the leader of the Chavez Guerillas (whose name I still can't remember) is that America actually came back and America knowing how much that means is just beautiful.

9. I like that there is some resolution between America and Lisa, and I'm curious to see the direction America's love life goes in next.

10. Oh my god, anyone else satisfied and yet still curious about the major reveal that occurred in the last few pages of this book. I'm not even putting in spoiler here, but I will say it helps tie together other parts of the arc so far. Looking forward to the next issue and what will happen with this plotline next.

This issue was a good conclusion to the arc; however, I'm still not fully immersed in the world being created, although I thing the next arc will take an interesting direction. I'm probably going to pick up the next issue, and if I'm not immersed, I'll stop buying the issues and start reading them another way. I've just felt a bit let down by this series so far, especially considering America is one of my favourite superheroes. I also feel the characterisation of some background characters has been very lackluster, so I'm not really invested in them or their survival, really.

However, pros: the art was fantastic in this issue; Prodigy and America have great banter that I feel you don't get to see as much in the Young Avengers comics; I'm fully invested in Lisa and America's relationship- I started tearing up a bit towards the end; and America is finally, finally starting to become more like the focused, headstrong hero I'm used to in the YA comics. I feel like the following arc, focused on America's mum's, is going to be very hardhitting and emotional for both myself and America, so I'm quite hopeful for it!
