My new refrain is "No that is NOT how the Boston Public Library handled things"

A solid sequel to this new spinoff from creator of Whyborne & Griffin!

This is by no means a standalone as there is an overabundance of characters, past and present that populate this story, along with new players (both good and bad) that have been introduced.

Regardless, the setting of Widdershins holds a special place in my heart, and I love the fact that there’s no extra exposition needed to explain the strange happenings that go on all the time as the eclectic citizens that inhabit this town know they come from a dark twisted history and that in itself, forms a general acceptance of the macabre and potential for evil awfulness that lurks around every corner.

When gruesomely and meticulously carved victims start to pile up, Sebastian and Vesper have no choice but to investigate because it all seems suspiciously tied to the four evil books whose existence they discovered in [b:Unhallowed|53985078|Unhallowed (Rath & Rune #1)|Jordan L. Hawk|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1592339360l/53985078._SY75_.jpg|84354437]. Though one book is safe and magically bound to Sebastian, another seems to have reared its ugly head, allowing for terrible powerful magic to be wrought. Along with their eccentric librarian brethren, Seb and Ves desperately search to find the second book, as well as a way to destroy them all.

Consistently steeped in horror which for some reason always shocks me, JLH also brings the gore and the terror and the efforts of those hell bent on world domination and the depraved ways they go about obtaining it. Rest assured, the romance is more fleshed out, the supporting cast continues to feature strong female characters, and no doubt there’s a story arc brewing with many dangling threads left that will continue to compel me to read the next installment when it comes!!

Spooky

I loved this! With all its creeping chilling horror, it still conveyed family, love, and acceptance. I had guessed what was going on long before the characters but I guess having an outside perspective and no attachment to the bad guys makes it easier. I am so looking forward to the rest of the series.

I don't know why I waited so long to read this one. I missed Sebastian & Ves and the group of friends and librarians. Ves & Noct's family pay a visit, and you know that won't end well! Bodies are being found, and it's leads them to think the Book of the Flesh is involved. The old families are still driving me nuts, and I still don't trust them! Sebastian & Ves' relationship is evolving beautifully, and they are just so sweet to each other. The sexy times involve tentacles, and I kinda like it. The book is as creepy as the others, and I love it! I always enjoy the action and how all the bad guys come out of the woodwork. Sebastian also finds out something about his mother. The ending makes me think that maybe Sebastian's ancestor wasn't allowed to bind with the books for a reason, and maybe he will find that out.

This one didn't draw me in as strongly as the first book, but it was still enjoyable. Someone is murdering Waites, Irene is having second thoughts about her engagement, Noct makes things grow, Sebastian is discovering unexpected benefits of being bound to creepy books, and Vesper has many chances to go full-tentacle.

I had such a blast reading this. Seriously, I want to just immediately start rereading it again.

I love the world, and I love the gang to bits. The romance is swoony, the body horror excellent, and the overarching plot thickens nicely. Absolute joy of a book.

Also, Sebastian’s… enthusiasm for Ves’s tentacles never fails to make me positively gleeful. As a fellow pervert, I’m incredibly happy for him

Can’t wait for the next one!
