I liked the story and characters for the most part. I couldn't put the book down, but it was just so fast-paced. I feel like the events and feelings weren't well detailed and that this book could have been a lot better if they were. Overall, I enjoyed it and will be continuing the trilogy to find out the rest of the story.

No rating because ugh.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
3.5/5 stars

3.5 stars. So this was pretty much your typical YA fantasy. The main character is an unloved orphan who discovers she has super-special powers and is the only one who can save them all. There’s a love triangle, with one guy as the sweet-handsome-nice-childhood-friend and the other as the dark-mysterious-beautiful-hot-villain.
That being said, it was still enjoyable. It was fast-paced and held my interest. Honestly, it reminded me a lot of the first Throne of Glass book, enjoyable but with little substance. The ending was pretty exciting, the whole last third was pretty exciting, actually, so I’m giving 3.5 stars and rounding up to 4.
I really liked… the Darkling. He was mysterious and arrogant and beautiful and I’ll just say, if (Alina doesn’t end up with him, I will be really mad)!
Mal was so boring. Please Alina, don’t choose him? Please? Again, Mal was so boring.
In short…
The Good
-The ending
-The DARKLING
-The fast pacing
-The writing style

The Bad
-“Chosen One” trope
-Mal
-love triangle

So do I recommend this? It depends. If you’re okay with a light, enjoyable, if rather clichéd book, yes, definitely! If you want something a little more complex and dark, maybe not.
adventurous medium-paced

boring i’m sorry i could barely get through it. i’m gonna blame it on the fact that i watched the show before i read this and also alina is a mess
