It was fine. I do not get the hype and why people are obsessed and how it got a Netflix show, but hey, good for Leigh Bardugo.
I do not like Mal and I do not understand him as a love interest.
I thought I liked Genya, but then…ya know, betrayal.
Botkin was about the only Ravkan I legitimately liked in this book.
Watching the show before having read this made the twists WAY less impactful 😭
Okay, I went back through my buddy read notes and there were some good gems about embracing who you are and stepping into your power, so I upped it to 3.5.

This was okay. I couldn’t really get into it until 50% through and even still it was just.. okay

Hmm alright. Not my favorite by a long shot. I like the Grishaverse as a whole though. I’m definitely interested to see where it goes but overall very cliche YA. More of a 2.75/5 really. Will I read the next two? Yeah. Will it wait until after six of crows? YEP.

oh god, this sat on my tbr for so long because I was afraid it wouldn't live up to my expectations, and well... it didn't 😭 I think it was something about the writing that didn't quite get me, I feel the characters are a bit bland at this stage and struggled to connect with them I honestly didn't care about what happened to any of them, but I will continue reading because my mom didn't raise a quitter (we'll see)

Such a fast and cosy reread after a bit of a slump
I heard so many amazing things about this book and it has been sitting on my shelf for a while. I finally opened it yesterday and finished it today. I wanted to love it. I love a dark love interest but the relationship with the darkling was SO under developed it was barely there. Also Mal, are we serious???? The boy who never really noticed her? Who didn’t like her until she was ThE ChOsEn OnE. No thanks I’m good. Not sure if I will read the second one.
