My Summer Challenge this year (well it is my first one), is to read all Sarah Dessen books. I will be reading one Sarah Dessen book every week and hope that by the end of Summer I will be up to date with them all. :)

A standard pattern I have noticed in the books (I have read 3 now) is that they all start of slow, pick up speed after 3 chapters and then it mostly a rollercoaster ride of emotions and awesomeness.

I really love that everything in the end revolves around Colby and the neighbouring towns/cities. There are also various characters that pop up that are also from other books. Now that I have read a few, I recognize characters and it makes me happy to see that they still get a chance to say hi. :)

Our main character this time is a girl who is troubled because of the divorce of her parents. She travels with her dad (who has to travel for her work) and she makes up personalities for every town, but with the new one she decides to go with her real name.

There is a lot of things that happen, we got romance, friendship, finding yourself, parents, work and so much more. It was truly amazing to read this one.

I loved Mclean, though her name was just weird, and I kept reading it as Mcclean. I love how she starts off unsure about things, wondering if she should make a new personality, but soon settling down, making new friends, finding someone she loves. Of course her life isn't easy (this is a Sarah Dessen book after all), her mom cheated on her dad and they divorced. Mclean never really forgave her mom and she has a lot of arguments and discussions with her mom.
I recognized a lot in Mclean, especially in her mom part and how her mom wanted constant contact, constant attention and would go in a rage mode if Mclean wasn't fast enough with replying or mailing or calling.

The ending to this book? Wonderful, I am so happy for Mclean, that this solution was possible.

I have bought the book since I really loved this one and it deserves to be in my collection.

I would recommend this book to everyone who needs a nice contemporary book.

I bow down to you Sarah Dessen!!

This book was really SWEET!!!!! I was so glad in the end that Mclean decided to stay, I couldn't bare that she was going to be away from Dave and her friends. It was really emotional in a good way and I would recommend it to anyone. I actually liked the idea of her past schools that she was someone else, I thought it was really creative how Sarah Dessen did that. I just loved this book, just like all her other books!

4.5

What did happen to goodbye? Sarah Dessen is a great author but this book wasn't my favourite. It took me awhile to actually get into this book. Mclean is an interesting character, I found that she lacked a bit of emotion. I didn't like how whenever someone offered to help her or wanted to hang out with her she was reluctant. I get not wanting strings when your always moving but being nice doesn't hurt anyone. Also I didn't like how whenever a problem presented itself she was out the door quicker then you could say Luna Blu. Overall I thought this book was okay not sure if I would recommend it to anyone though. Well have a great life ladies and gents.

love jason finally not being boring i'm still curous about what exactly changed with him tho

what is with parents in these books thinking their kids should just be fine with them cheating on the other parent skjdfksj

and WHY does mclean's mother bother trying to bring up custody when mclean is almost 18 and going off to college it's not like her dad is abusive or neglects her needs where she would need to get mclean away from him right now immediately, it was just dumb and unfair, i'm glad she got a little better at the end, but like. she still cheated

i really wish i knew how to picture the model like i imagine it has to be pretty large but HOW large and how do they transport it out of there i'm v curious

i know it's not a healthy way for mclean to cope, but like trying different identities especially in high school isn't a bad thing like i know it was an escape from her life, but her personal life was so public like you can't blame her for changing names and personas when everyone knows about her parents' divorce idk like maybe it's just bc we don't SEE it happen but it's hard to say how much she actually changed her personality each time, which would be more of the issue than like changing names and her aesthetic you know? i have a different aesthetic depending on the day lmao it's not a bad thing

the friendship with deb was so nice, i can't believe how rude ppl (heather) were about her before like she's a perfectly nice person and turns out to be so much more than meets the eye. i'm curious about her backstory bc we only got vague hints about it

i REALLY enjoyed her relationship with dave, moreso than some of the last books bc dessen follows this pattern with the girl pulling away bc she can not deal emotionally (relatable) and the guy just usually kinda not being at all understanding and it's all framed like the girl's fault even tho the guys don't even like try, they just get mad at the girl for freaking out lmao SO it was nice that dave didn't just ghost her and he would've been her 2 a.m. AND omg all the little figures he put in the model was so unbelievably sweet i loved it

Not 100% predictable, and it was more about family conflict and friendships than a love story! I really liked the Deb character and how she kept surprising everyone.

I have no idea why I read Sarah Dessen's books, because they're pretty much the same girl in the same character arc over and over. So the girl is named Mclean this time, and her quirky-but-alluring guy is a brainiac trying to be normal, and her parents-are-people-too moment is about her mom having an affair, divorcing her dad, and changing how she lives, and Mclean coming to terms with that. As always, the book was very well-written, but Dessen's books get less and less compelling the more I read, because the emotional climaxes are always basically the same. OH WELL.

Didn't like this one as much as some of Sarah Dessen's earlier books.
