It was good, but Finishing School two books are so much better, that I can rate Soulless only four weak stars.

Loved this book. It was the perfect combination of biting wit, romance and mystery. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

I really really wanted to like this book. It has a strong female, steampunk Victorian London, and vampires and werewolves.

The sex scenes were not the breaking point. They were okay as far a sex scenes go. Better than some written by more literary authors.

The problem was introducing a Real Historical Personage in the last chapter acting in a historically inconsistent manner than really killed it for me. To make the heroines dreams come true and wrap it up in a pretty bow.

I’m sorry. There were many parts I did enjoy, especially the beginning. I’ve just read too much history I guess.

3.75/4 — not high literature, but a silly goofy time

You can tell this is definitely the first book of a series because I was CRAVING more details about this world Carriger created. I can not wait to read the next in the series. I loved the heroine, the relationships, the "science," the steampunk (my first steampunk experience, btw). AMAZING!

basically sookie stackhouse of Victoria England. silly, with some eyerolling moments, but fun.
