So, I picked this one because it was available in my library and I needed a palate cleanser after two heavy fantasy books.

Did I read the other 14 books that came before this one? No, but I was familiar with the alien barbarian universe. That's honestly enough to pick up this book and understand the story. I saw other reviews saying that it would be nice to have read the previous books because you will see a nicer character development, but I could already tell how she was vain and had misguided ideals of how a partner should be and, after suffering a serious burn, she had to learn how to accept herself, find her own value and be part of the society she chose to live in.

That said, I thought her "growth" was quite simplistic and the author could go much deeper into acceptance of her appearance vs vanity. But I get that this is supposed to be something light.

Ruby Dixon's books have usually the same formula and they work for me, because I finished this book in literally 24hs, with some funny moments, nice spicy scenes and all.

However, I got really annoyed at this book because I think the MMC needed to do a lot of groveling and he did none. She was just accepting of him and I was having none of that!
