This book was definitely better than what I was expecting. It was so well written; with an even distribution between science and humor. With this kind of book and premise, you need humor to relieve some of the other plot points of the book and Andy Weir did a phenomenal job doing that. Mark Watney was hilarious and had me laughing out loud. Weir also kept me on my toes and biting my nails. There were so many points in this book that had me nervous! It was so exciting!
Also, I was never interested in NASA before this but it fascinated me and kept me intrigued throughout the whole book.
Going into this book, I believed the was only his log entries on mars. I knew that in the movie we saw what was going on at NASA through the whole thing but I thought they had added that for the movie. I was wrong and I am so happy I was. I loved to see NASA and JPL in the book and the different people working to get Mark home. Also, I loved the parts of the book where we saw the Hermes crew. The transitions between all these places were beautifully done and gave so much background that was needed for this book.
I would recommend this book to anyone, it definitely stands out to me and I'm so happy I got around to reading it.

This book was a journey.
I haven't seen the movie yet and I didn't know anything of the story.
It was an experience, I truly had no idea of what was coming next and it was amazing.
It was a sequence of something going completely wrong but then finding a solution, another thing goes completely wrong, but here's another even crazier solution. My emotion were a constant up and down.
I have also read Project Hail Mary (and loved it), but this one is much more concise and for everyone. There are fewer sections strictly about science and engineering, which without images or schematics sometimes are hard to follow.
I loved the light-hearted nature of the main character and Andy Weir has a great sense of humor, I found myself chuckling at the changes of scenes or at some of the descriptions of the external narrator.
If I had to find a fault, I would have loved to see a bit more of the reunion with the crew mates. The ending is cut a bit short. It's a very emotional moment and I would have loved for it to last a bit more.
Anyway, great great book, full 5 starts. I'm gonna watch the movie soon.
