Imagine if First Wives Club was about queer teenage boys and their shitty exes. And then imagine that it's not just about the shitty exes, but the shitty community that keeps trying to pretend they don't exist and gaslight them about their experiences. And imagine that, just like Goldie + Bette + Diane, those boys get their moment to shine.

How could I not love this book?

Yes, there are definitely some YA moments and sometimes Ezra goes a little too back and forth, but I think that only adds to the book's charm and message. I love that the characters are flawed and scared because that makes it more authentic. And I love that even (at least one of) the shitty exes develops some modicum of self-awareness and gets to be a part of something more. And I love the allies in this story. This was a great book to kick off Pride Month.

This book was just a type of book that I think I’ve outgrown. For a book that’s about a queer revolution, it presented a pretty sanitized image of queerness that also frustrated me. Lots of telling not showing and the side characters were steeped in stereotypes.

This book was super cute and very fun while also being incredibly important in its statement. It largely centers around the discriminatory agendas being pushed at schools specifically targeting LGBTQIA+ history and people while starting as a fun revenge plot on our main characters’ ex-boyfriends. Watching these characters, and specifically Ezra, grow into themselves and become stronger versions of themselves is really nice. Also, the TikTok aspect of this book was relatable and actually exciting, like I was pumped to see what their next upload would be and how people would react (art imitates life, I suppose 😅) also the rep here is FANTASTIC, this small town in Alabama has soooo much queerdom going on I’m obsessed and ready to move (jk but still 😂)

The blossoming romance between Kackson and Ezra made me soooo happy! Like they are soooo cute together and I love that they each get a win here after how they were treated by Presley. Jackson is such a lil puppy dog and the fact that he’d been crushing for so long on Ezra is incredibly sweet.

I will say that I wish the ending weren’t left to the imagination as much with this one. I think that we could have gotten a more firm conclusion here, seeing the final interview and School Board meeting and verdict. With the way the antagonists were so openly harassing students and cartoonishly villainous, that would have been incredibly rewarding and balance out the horrible behavior and bullying a bit better. That said, the presumption of the HEA these characters deserve is very nice!

Overall, I loved this book, I love our protagonists and this would definitely make a super cute movie!

this book is sharply written, witty and warm, full of love and revenge and characters you would die to protect. i feel so lucky to have read this book and have the opportunity to scream from the rooftops about how wonderful it is. last boyfriends has. it. all. tackles important and timely real-world issues? check. funny and smart? check. revenge plots? check. adorable best friends? check. a protagonist you love to pieces and would do anything for? check. queer love and justice at the forefront? double check.

this book is not only intensely readable, going down smoothly like a fine cocktail, but extremely important. and i think i might have to preorder a copy to send directly to that loser desantis, packaged with glitter of course.
