3rd reread: Who am I kidding this book deserves as any other book all the stars and I am still reeling from all the emotions because I love my Howlers family so much, Darrow, Mustang, Sevro, Roque, Quinn, Pax, etc. I saw a lot of foreshadowing moments for the next books that I completly missed and I am glad to say that this book - this series - will stay forever in my bookshelves.

2nd Read: OKAY WOW THAT WAS MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST READ! I'm so glad I decided to reread it because I forgot like 80% of this book and DAMN I love it! This is more like a 4,5 to me and the only two little reason why I can't give a full five stars are: I hate Eo with all my heart and sometimes I wished I had more description. BUT I loved it and I'm so glad I can continue it on!

I just finished this book and I feel like having a book-hangover.
Despite the similarities with Red Queen, which I didn't like btw, Red Rising was more bloody, more action, more plottwists and less romance. I'm really surprised for liking this book so much. Usually I really don't read distopia books because I don't like the genre and I think the distopia book are very similar. well, Red Rising has the basic distopia points too - cruel society, a main character who wants to fight for the suppressed people - but it was made in likeable and good way.

I think the plot stretched a bit in the middle and could've been shorter. And woah, I didn't expect my heart would be ripped out so many times. I need the second book assap.

It was a great story, that starts immediately into action and never lets down for a single second. Darrow is a great character and he goes through such a great development and his arc is very well-written. The test they go through has some allusion to the Hunger Games, but is different enough to make it distinct. The way Darrow gets smarter and more cunning by the end is great to see, he is a really great protagonist. He makes his mistakes, but he learns form them and has inner turmoil, and fucks up a lot. The ending sets up very nicely for any further books.

Absolutely amazing!!

Darrow is a 16 y.o boy who is a miner and living in Mars. He is a Red and thus the lowest in a color coded society while the Golds rule them all. (Tbh i was a bit confused about the hierarchy of colors and could not follow up all of it at the start. Because there is so many info, and world building. It was a bit struggle to keep up with them.)The Reds does the shittiest jobs and die very quickly. (A 40ish man considered very old, if you get my meaning) The story start when Darrow is newly married to Eo. They are friends from a really young age and all darrow wants is to live a simple life with her but Eo's plans are a bit different. She wants to live freely. In an act of defiance, Eo sings the illegal song and thats why she is hanged. And this act forces Darrow's hand as well. I dont like manupilative acts such as this. I felt really sorry for Darrow when she was hanged because she forced Darrow even though he did not want to change.

I wont go into the story much more than this because everything is connected and i dont wanna give too many spoilers. But the story is very action packed. It is really interesting and fun to read.

Great start to this ( what is effectively) feudal fantasy/ distopian romp in Space. Great Central character who is flawed,  and tragic and exciting and shows signs of complexity that makes the reader want more.    4. 5/5
