this was good I guess but she was not all that ….

basically poor miner man attempts to infiltrate the elite’s hunger games hogwarts to incite a dramatic revolution in honor of his
tragically executed
wife

at times the color castes were cool and the times I was rolling my eyessss like …  girl, YA is calling 🙄 she wants her trope back

parts of the story dragged on endlessly once they were in the hunger games and I also am not a fan of
‘person is keeping a bad secret from a person they become close friends’ with so the julian thing made my eye twitch

major points off for brutalization of women which felt completely unnecessary to me. not cool. that plus the dated feel of the story kept me from connecting, maybe if I would have read this 10 years ago i’d have loved it

Main character is unsympathetic, feels like it is fanfiction about someone else’s world building. Sexual violence. It wants you to think it’s dark and edgy but is just another white mans chance to be the chosen one and inflict violence on the female characters

4.5/5! i loved this book so much and honestly have little
to say as i’m still digesting all the plot twist/plot shifts. however- i loved the competition vibes and the found family as well. my only reason for not giving it 5 stars was because the proctors at the end and one of the plot twists also towards the end were a little annoying. brain definitely has to be on for this read but i loved that it challenged me as a reader! i can’t wait to read the next!
