HELLO I UNDERSTAND THE HYPE NOW!

I am 100% fully assimilated in the acotar fandom!! I want to live in Velaris, soak up the night sky on Starfall, wear comfy clothes and battle Tamlin (because really my dude he’s the worst), and most of all, be around those amazing amazing bat boys and the rest of the Night Court crew.

I really enjoyed the first one but I was holding onto hope when everyone legit screamed at me that the second one was better. you all were right.

[possible spoilers beyond this point]

Feyre is not made for the Spring Court, she was made to be the QUEEN of Night Court and I’m so here for it it’s not even funny.  I loved every second that she got along with Cassian, Azizel, Amren, and MY LOVER MOR. I would seriously sacrifice my human pathetic life for her (which makes me extremely nervous because all of my favorite characters always seem to bite the dust).

I also so loved how much this book explored the different forms of PTSD. Feyre’s trauma was so great, but I loved seeing how Tamlin and Rhys reacted from their own traumas as well. spoiler alert, Tamlin’s possessive ass is NOT what to do.

also while we’re venting about Tamlin, I friggin knew he was going to be salty enough to team up with the King of Hybern. like what the frick is wrong with this possessive asshole. you’re really about to destroy your whole ass kingdom for a woman that doesn’t even want you???

and don’t even get me started on the humans and their stupid queens. they don’t even deserve to be saved.

how quickly will I binge the next one? stay tuned.

There's a lot of debate on whether this series fits more with Young Adult, Adult, or the even more vague New Adult. The first novel definitely seemed to fit more in Young Adult, with the expected tropes of a somewhat forced romance with broody love interest and an expected love triangle with a dark haired "bad boy". Not only does this novel tear those tropes apart, it does something even better in recognizing trauma and abuse not as a quick plot point or obstacle, but as a critical part of it's protagonist's journey. The themes in this novel are what young adult novels and general media have been failing at for my entire life, which gives me hope that a new era of female autonomy and recognizing abuse patterns could be upon us.

Okay, I’m my ACOTSR review I didn’t have the full scope of Tamlin or Rhys: I now completely agree with the general public opinion. Tamlin is just such
a gaslighting, controlling bastard!!!  And to think that Feyre would willingly stay with him when he continues to trap her, control her, and smother her until she’s caving in on herself!? Ugh. Such a bastard. <spoiler/> now, Rhysand on the other hand: is such a sweet, damaged baby. When Tamlin failed to recognize that Feyre had severe PTSD from the experience, Rhys did, and he’s the one that took steps to help her heal from that. Tamlin just ignored it, saying that he was dealing with his own shit. Well guess what, Rhys has 50x more trauma from the experience than Tamlin, so he actually understands what Feyre is going to though.
And then he wonders why Feyre ends up with Rhys. Smh. <spoiler\>
