art history! cat! it was fun.

Time travel adventure? Count me in.

Every year, I fixate on a book and then am sad when it doesn't win the Newbery (see my "Shoulda Been Newbery" list). This is this year's book--though I suppose it MIGHT win :-)

(Last year was "Wink" ...yes, I know I was on the committee last year and I loved our winners and honors, but... And the Year before was "We Are Not From Here" which was so much better than "New Kid" they aren't even in the same ballpark)

All this to say: This is the best book for kids I have read this year. (note how long it took me to read it)

Not as pleasing as some of Catherine Gilbert Murdock's other youth/young adult works, but I still enjoyed it overall.

The plot was surprising and fun. I wasn't ever quiet sure what would happen and enjoying finding out as I listened to the book. I'm excited to pass this book on to students.

In the book Fred using Michelangelo's pride as an artist to motivate him and I realize that art is enduring. The details of the artist's lives might be forgotten but their work remains. This is true of paintings, music, literature . . . If one wants to make a greater impact in the future then art is the way to go. ;)

Fun little renaissance time-travel story. Note for conservative readers: main character has two moms that feature prominently in the story.

This book should have been a slam dunk for me and it just wasn't. Time travel, Renaissance artists, cats.

The plot is convoluted, the initial character is pretty unlikeable, and needed far better editing.

I almost DNFed this as an adult with a strong interest in this topic. I am really struggling to see who this was written for because I can't think of one regular in my library who I would recommend this to. More specifically, I cannot think of any middle schooler who would be continuously engaged by the writing.
