I enjoyed this book a lot more than the 1st in the series, "The Inheritance Games". It was exciting and interesting. I liked the characters a lot more. I really felt like I connected with them more than before.

“Tobias Hawthorne’s game hadn’t made me extraordinary. It had shown me that I already was.”

I think this book was the best book of the series so far, I thoroughly enjoyed myself throughout this book and couldn’t wait until I could pick it up again and read more.

Jennifer Lynn Barnes always holds me in the palm of her hand with her writing and I love it every time.

I loved that we got to understand EVEN more of the backstory to Avery’s world and we finally understood why she was chosen by Tobias Hoawthorne’s legacy. The relationship development between her and Jameson made me giddy and I was happy when Grayson had found someone to put his energy into! I am falling more and more in love with Xander throughout this series and I think he has slowly and surely become my favourite character! I just want a BHFF like Xander!

The moment that Eve arrived, I was suspicious and unfortunately I saw a few of the plot twists coming, however, it did not stop me from appreciating the planning on Barnes’ perspective and the incredible writing it took to for me to still be shocked by the twists, even though I saw them coming.

The new characters introduced to the storyline only helped the plot line further. The last chapter skipping to the year ahead rounded up the storyline, although the series hasn’t finished!!

A 4.75⭐️ read for me and I’m itching to open up the next book!

I loved the book and the Hawthorne world! The author really took the riddles and games to a new level. However, I found it harder to relate to the characters in this book than the first two.
This book jumps a year from the last and in that time  Avery and a Jameson develop a serious relationship. However, since I as the reader didn’t witness their relationship over the last year, it felt artificial or forced to start.
I also would love more development and focus on some of the side characters like Libby and Max! Even Nash needs more attention.

I thought this was a satisfying conclusion to the Inheritance Games trilogy. It upped the ante fairly considerably as we move swiftly towards having all the pieces of the puzzle. This book was a fast read for me as the games escalated in intensity and we finally understood everything that brought us to this point in the story. I think overall a very fun series and I liked how the author wrapped things up here. It wasn't too "perfect" in the sense that not everyone gets the cherry on top happy ending, but it feels realistic and grounded. I enjoyed the growth of many of the characters in this novel and watching them grapple with reconciling their past lives with the present.
I think this series overall does a satisfactory job at introducing the idea of how wealth corrupts and how those who are uber wealthy have access to levers of power and how that creates a level of protection for their behavior and actions. We see multiple examples of this throughout but this really comes to a crescendo in this novel. I wish that the author was more comfortable diving deeper into the immorality of this level of wealth and power, but that being said I recognize that this is a YA novel so we can't expect too much on this front. The ending had some good lessons about wealth and power.

The Final Gambit is a wonderful continuation of The Hawthorne Legacy series. Each book has focused on unraveling a different piece of the story of billionaire Tobias Hawthorne and those around him in a masterful way. And the reasons behind his choosing Avery Kylie Grambs to inherit are laid out in this third book.

As an enjoyer of mysteries and puzzles, these books had me hooked from start to finish with their twists and turns.
