Otherworld is the collective subconscious of the British Isles, and the source of all magic in all realms. Populated by creatures of British myth and figures like King Arthur and Merlyn, it's exactly as you might imagine. But it has recently begun to change. Great walking cities have sprung up, first of all Manchester, followed by Birmingham, and then more. They are dark satanic things, made of iron, belching smoke and fire. And they wage war upon the rural idyll of Otherworld.

The All-Mother sends Loki, working as her agent, to support the Otherworld pantheon in their war against these god-cities. With him goes Leah, handmaiden of Hela, to keep an eye on him.

Nobody could do this story like Gillen. He is the master of this New Weird-esque fantasy, with a sense for the resonance of myth throughout British culture (I say as if British culture were a monolith, but never mind). This volume is brilliant, a fascinating story the like of which I didn't think I'd see in a Marvel comic, while still being completely about Loki. Read this. It's bizarre, it's funny, and it's good. Plus Captain Britain is there!
