i feel like I'm still generous with my rating tbh cause wth 😭 Carter was SO whiny oh my I could not stand this man. The only character that made this book bearable was Hank and Adam. It was way too long for whatever this was. I sure hope the other books are better.

Yeaaah...This wasn't for me. The book tried to be funny and charming but it was cringy and cheesy. It was a bit... childish?
The character's love story felt so UN-earned. The main problem in the third act was stupid and totally unnecessary. I was planning on being nicer to this book because it kind of had me in the beginning and I wanted to ignore that cringe worthy language and moments, but by the 70% mark, I was DONE. I was going to give the author another chance and read book two but I can't anymore.

DID NOT FINISH: 22%

The best friend of the female male character just took down (?) the main male character by talking about his enormous penis and his ego. Sigh.

Upon reflection, there was actually very little of this book I liked. Almost all of it my philosophy was "well surely it has to get better from here" but it didn't really.

My main positive, my favorite part of the book by far, was when Olivia started freaking out about seeing Carter with someone and he was like yeah nope we are both going back to the house and fighting about this and talking it out. Otherwise you will go home and realize you were wrong and feel guilty and it'll be pointless. I liked that 1 the characters (at least Carter) wasn't being an idiot and 2 that you know in real life couples fight and talk things through in the moment even if it's messy and I like seeing that represented in a book. I also really liked Hank who seemed like the most wise/rational/sweet character by far. Who doesn't love a sweet, sarcastic, blind old man.

I wish the book ended after they won the Stanley cup, the last 15% was worse upon worse. The whole blackmail break up scheme seemed like a fun plot twist but in realistic terms the girl got nothing out of it and it was pointless. I disliked the proposal at the wedding. I didn't like the super quick wedding. I hated the baby announcement. All things that are, roughly, in character but I just didn't like the characters so I wasn't a fan of these moments.
