I signed up for a cheap thriller and that’s what I got.

Well written, easy read - but honestly just a Stephen King ripoff in terms of the plot.
The Chalk Man was one of my favourite books of last year, but this one was too unoriginal. The voice and characters were great but the plot was just too similar to a certain King novel to look past it.

This was a disturbing book. Sometimes it's less about external factors (though, they DO matter) but looking at oneself can reveal a lot more than what meets the eye. I really loved the narrative voice in this one, it had it's own power over the reader and it constructed the story in a way that made it all the more interesting to unravel and see how the events of this novel would unfold.

By Golly CJ Tutor can tell a story! I think this is now my new favourite of her works.

I could not put this down. There was way too much that I needed to know. But I will say I do not like the main character. He’s like Jack Reacher with his crappy attitude. As I was reading it, I definitely felt that the author is way too big of a fan of Stephen King. And then I noticed she called him out in her acknowledgments. So if you like King, this is your book. Definitely had Pet Sematary vibes.

Amazing...
Fui um pouco às escuras para a leitura deste livro e ainda bem pois fui surpreendida até ao final.
Com uma vibe muito parecida com o “samiterio de animais” de Stephen King, mas com crianças em vez de animais.
