I was a big fan of Lords of Rainbow so learning more about this amazing and thought-provoking world was an easy yes for me. It is a short prequel that introduces the Fall of the Rainbow where the world was leached of all colors. Beautifully written as everything Vera writes is, I found myself finishing this short story in a mere 10 minutes.

(It seemed be in a similar vein to Jacqueline Carey's amazing short story, Earth Begotten, which introduces the reader to Elua from her Kushiel series.)

Worth the read if you have already finished Lords of Rainbow but potentially a bit confusing if you are unfamiliar with the world.

As a story this is pretty intriguing, and would make me want to continue with the series EXCEPT for some weird world building stuff I didn't love. Also, the author's definition of love was disturbing to me.
