As effective as the previous novel, which is often hard to do in the middle book of a trilogy! This novel was more introspective than the first and really allowed the characters to grow and experience the changes needed to continue living in this society. I'm eager to see where the author will end things for these characters in her final installment!

My biggest problem with the first book was the unnecessary sexual assault/rape that was thrown into the plot for "realism" I assume. But WHO NEEDS REALISM IN ZOMBIE STORY?
Anyway, in the first book those scenes at least impacted the plot in some way (though the book could still achieve the same outcome without them). In this book they felt forced in a "look how cruel this word is *sad face*" way.
Until that point my thoughts while reading were "well, this is a little boring" then slap in my face: RAPE. Why? Just why? Using sexual assault for shock value is really low and in my opinion a proof of poor writing skills. If you can't write about it in a well thought, compassionate way THEN DON'T WRITE ABOUT IT AT ALL. YOUR BOOK DOESN'T NEED IT.
A random dude grabbing the main characters boob also wasn't needed.
But what about the rest of the plot? - you ask. Well, it went like that:
1. Oh no zombies so many
2. Lets hide
3. One character does something stupid
4. Someone insignificant dies
5. Main character in danger!
6. Main character used: plot armor, someone else dies
7. Repeat 1-6 until there's 50 pages left
There were also some editing errors. Some sentences were literally copied and pasted.

I hate this book.

Would've been 4 stars...

There was too much tragedy in this one. It made it a rough read at some points. Other than that the characters are loveable. Far too many of them die in this book for me to enjoy it but the main 3 make it through.

You might remember when I raved about the first book in this saga and now I am back telling you to read Book 2!

Starting right off from where the last book ended we're back with Cash - have I mentioned that I love her character in the other review enough? They are still fighting against the zombies and making decisions that could change their futures.

I also love Aukes' writing style, she doesn't overwrite with lengthy descriptions and I loved the addition of Benji. My brother has Downs Syndrome and this character is so beautifully written that it made me feel a special protection for him, like I do with my own brother.

I am looking forward to the final book to see how this will all end... but I also don't want it to end!

I didn't think that this sequel was as successful as the first novel, but I think a trilogy like this is likely to suffer from 'more of the same' syndrome. Still, it was a pleasant read and kept my interest well enough that I'll likely continue on with the next one. The author did a good job of coming up with interesting new scenarios to put her characters in mortal danger which I feel is half the battle in keeping up a good zombie trilogy, since it's such a flooded genre.

These books must be read in order. There's a lot more zombies and action in this second book. I missed the interpersonal relationships from book one, and while we had some in this book, it was definitely more focused on non-stop action. Quite a few good characters get taken out in this one, so prepare yourself!

Very good book. A zombie novel, with a different twist...even thought it's tough to bring something new to Zombie novel!!
