Really great characters - unique and relatable. Also, the story is enjoyable, having happy and sad moments. This book is not a typical romance but I like how the boy and girl main characters can just stay friends.

i liked it. it was original and a fun concept and i do like that the romance was not the main plot point and it was more focused on the platonic friendship. i think i would have given it a 4.5 if it had a more solid ending instead of it being a sort of show’s over ending. 3.75 for tumblr era nostalgia. in itself though i though it was great, a lot of the characters were flawed people, i liked watching them make mistakes. it also had really good commentary of young people getting really famous on social media and its damage.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Alice Oseman just understands today’s teenagers in a way that very few other authors do - especially the teenagers who don’t “fit in”, who would rather spend an evening inside scrolling on Tumblr than out socialising. They write realistic young characters who have flaws, make mistakes, and are unashamedly cringe, and they are so relatable. The protagonist of Radio Silence, Frances, has built her entire identity around being clever and responsible and one day going to Cambridge, but what she doesn’t realise is that people and goals can change dramatically over the years. What happens when you have worked your whole life to be someone you no longer are? Frances, like so many other characters in Oseman’s books, makes me feel extremely seen and validated.

This book took me back to my 2016 Tumblr fandom era! I loved the internal monologue, stream of consciousness writing style because it was so easy to follow. I loved getting to know Aled, Frances, Raine, Daniel, and Carys as they navigated their futures after finishing school. I could very much relate to "School Frances" and her outer studiousness and cleverness coupled with her inner nerd. AND IT WAS SO REFRESHING TO SEE A STORY WHERE A BOY AND GIRL ARE FRIENDS AND DON'T FALL IN LOVE!!! And a YA book where romance doesn't take over the entire plot! I am loving Alice Oseman's work :)
