I love the way this starts out like a romcom with Frances meeting the maker of the podcast she’s obsessed with quite by accident. It then becomes a book about friendship, mental health, child abuse, and toxic fandom culture. It was a fun ride. I especially enjoyed having demisexual rep. The fandom references seemed a little dated for teens the year this came out, but that might have been on purpose (or they were popular then in the UK). I would have liked a little more discussion of suicide since it seemed like everyone was afraid to put a label on their specific concerns about a certain character later in the book. Great opportunity for mental health conversations.

I love how deeply this book was rooted in friendship and creating true, real, and very raw connections with others. I really enjoyed the first half as well as was very nervous for the characters in the second as things blew up to the point I wasn’t sure which way it would go.

Beautiful story as a reminder that we do have a choice in the end and there is always another way if we allow ourselves to seek it. 🗝✨

I can understand why people love this book so much.

I don't think I like it as much as some other books I've read, but it's an incredible story and I really loved all the characters. I expected to get some of this story from Aled's POV, just from all the internet buzz around this, but I truly loved Frances as a main character, even though she was often incredibly oblivious.

The twists and turns of the story was really good, the sadness of the plot wasn't overwhelming.
I especially loved the friendships in this book, the different types of friendships and how they form.

Frances' and Aled's friendship is so beautiful to me, I wish we had gotten more of it. They are truly platonic soulmates. I might even like this friendship group more than the one in the previous Oseman books I've read. I truly wish we got a longer epilogue and ending.

Also: the mothers. The differences between Aled and Frances' mothers are glaringly obvious and I truly couldn't love both of those characters more for how different they are and the types of parental 'love' they represent. Frances' mother deserves all the love <3

Overall an incredible story. So glad I read this.

Man, this book was amazing...
As someone who struggled during university and ended up dropping out, I felt it in my soul. Your life's value isn't measured by how accomplished you are in life - if you are happy just working at a cafe or a normal job, then that's fine ❤️ Uni is not for everyone and it shouldn't be what you are forced or expected to do, honestly.
All that spoilery section aside, this book got me emotional so many times and woah, it's so easy to read! I exclusively listened to it and it only took me two or three days ✨💜
