These books have far exceeded all my expectations.
The covers do NOT do the words justice.

Lady Helen is badass and I love her.

This book was rich in detail and I absolutely love the details relating to the 1800s, like propriety, and a woman's role in a man's world.

I read a spoiler before beginning this book about a wedding and throughout this book I still had no idea who she was going to end up with at the end. It was an interesting development and it will be very interesting to read in book 3.

Sadly this is nowhere near as fun as the first one, clearly there will be a third, but I'm not sure I'll bother.

So good. Such a satisfying story. I cannot wait for the next book.
(My brain is still too awestruck to write anything coherent.)

**update**
second reading: Same reaction, honestly. This story is just. so. good! However! This time I have the third book to immediately jump into so.... expect more incoherent excitement soon!

Comme le premier tome, ce livre était épique ! Retournements de situation, secrets dangereux et pouvoirs maléfiques sont au rendez-vous. La situation est de plus en plus périlleuse et on ne sait si Lady Helen aura la force de sauver tout le monde...

The second Lady Helen book is fun and hits the same delightful mix of regency romance tropes and paranormal ya ones that the first book did. Frankly I didn't find the love triangle between Lady Helen, Lord Carlsten, and the Duke terribly compelling on a romantic level, but it was weirdly interesting for the way everyones' social statuses affected the plot. Also the fleshing out of some of the secondary characters (Darby and Hammond) added another level of interest.

It feels very much like a connector book, bridging the gap between 1 and 3. Mostly plodding; however, the end was amazing and exciting.
