Upper east side depressive episode, at times hard to read.  Kind of a drag, kind of a moment. 100% an add to the sad girl book list. It gives; privilege to the point that you can allow your mental illness to take over your life, yet your limit AmEx seems to never end and you can keep the apartment. The characters were all unbearable, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I love a main character that’s just rancid. I can’t stand her and yet I’m fascinated. Truthfully part of me is jealous of her just like she wants me to be. Unreliable, self absorbed, and destructive. Depressed, impulsive, and embarrassing. A heroin chic barbie on sleep meds.

This was a short but heavy read to take in. I too would like a year of rest & relaxation, but with less drugs and depression. I highlighted quite a bit, but wanted to share a few that really capture depression.

"I was growing less and less attached to life. If I kept going, I thought, I'd disappear completely, then reappear in some new form."

"This was the beauty of sleep—reality detached itself and appeared in my mind as casually as a movie or dream."

"Nothing else could bring me such pleasure, such freedom, the power to feel and move and think and imagine, safe from the miseries of my waking consciousness."
