Kym and Max were adorable together, and I love the overarching storyline. On to book two!

RTC but I quite enjoyed this one, it had all of the flavours that I love in a book but sadly I just had a hard time getting into the book. It felt like I was missing a lot of background information about the book’s story, as this is set in another series that I haven’t read yet, so it was a little confusing to follow through the story for me. And there was a little too much telling for me, I wish I was shown what happened more often. But I did have a fun time reading this book and the romance was quite sweet.

I received a copy of this book, and this is my honest review.

This is a new to me author and I must say that I really enjoyed this one. I didn’t realise that this book was a spin-off from a couple of other series by this author. Even though I haven’t read any of the other book I didn’t feel confused at all, and it didn’t detract from the story at all. I just really want to read the other books now, especially the book about King Damien and his mates.

Maximus is checking up on Kym, due to the fact his uncle was murdered, and found out that he was his mate. Max is a sole collector and works as a chief of one of the collection teams. He is looking into Kym’s uncles murder, after he was killed by a magical cult. It sort of follows on from the events in the King’s book, but I was still able to follow the storyline. Kym sees Max watching him and decides to go and talk to him. When Kym finally confronts him, he explains why he is there and basically end up telling him that their mates. They flirt from the off and Max tries to get them to meet again. Kym tells him to just come into the tattoo shop next time instead of stalking him from outside.

Kym doesn’t know what to make of what Max tells him, but his curiosity gets the best of him. They go on a date and Max treats him to an amazing time. Max decides to tell Kym about who he really is and what he does for a living. Poor Kym is shocked to learn that Max is basically dead, and he needs time to process things. They can’t keep away from each other for long though, so they start spending time together. I just love them together and Max is such a sweetheart despite his appearance. They have a lot in common and the date Kym arranges shows that.

Max is on the hunt for some missing children, a cause close to all their hearts. The King’s adopted son Walker went through a horrible experience at the same hands, so when children are involved, they are determined to get them back. Kym is very understanding about how important his work is to him and does his best to support him. In the same respect Max knows how important Kym’s tattoo shop and his best friend are to him. They respect each other and really support each other.

As the hunt for the children and even more things get thrown at them, they never forget about each other. They make time to be together and when things really come to a head, max is there in a flash for Kym. At that point Kym is very resilient and that is seen with everything that happens to him. He just does what he must for the people around him and wants more than anything to be with Max.

When they go to the Otherworld Kym experiences some major changes in himself. It’s amazing seeing his supe self-come out and he is so cute! He takes it all in his stride and take to life in the Otherworld so well. I loved learning about the Otherworld and all that happens there. The other realms were so fascinating, and they were explained so well, so I was never confused. There is a running story through the series, so many things were not at an end. Many things are still up in the air and the true meaning behind all that is going on is not known. It does have a HEA for the couple, it’s just that the overall storyline will continue in the other books.

I loved Max and Kym together. Kym taught Max that there is more to life than his job and Max taught Kym true love and family. They have an amazing found family and are both accepted into their family units so well, especially Kym when he goes to the Otherworld. They welcome him with open arms and are just so happy that Max has found his mate. The sexual chemistry between the two was off the charts and I loved when Max was in charge. He was so alpha male and Kym just lapped that up. Kym was the perfect bottom and doesn’t just give in to max in bed. My favourite bit was when they changed position as it showed how much they were Intune to each other. They never shied away from anything, and you could burn my Kindle with the heat coming off them sheets.

The secondary characters were some of my ultimate favourites. The King was the best by far and he was just the most kind, caring man. He even went to the human realm at the start so he could see for himself what Kym was like. He made sure they had time together and I adored him with his son and mate. Zane was a great friend to Max; I did feel sorry for Nox when they found Zane found their mate near the end. I do have an idea of who Nox’s mate will be though. Even more so after hearing Kym explain what kind of partner Killian wanted. I cannot wait to read more of this series and to finally find out what that witch is really up to. I will just have to wait patiently for the next book to come out by reading all the earlier books connected to this one.

I received this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

There were constant infodumps as worldbuilding, and I didn't like the style.
