Powerful but extremely upsetting and disturbing. It was often very hard to read and very emotional for me but I also felt like I needed to finish it - and I’m relieved I did in a way. That said, I couldn’t rightly recommend this to anyone and I really couldn’t imagine going thru reading this again.

A nice contribution to cult narratives, in a fresh way that was just distressing and funny enough to propel me along.

this was surreal and heartbreaking. not sure if I loved it or hated it. will probably be buying a copy

Perfect.

Book was great until the end and then it tried to create a fairy tale ending out of the chaos. Not in line with the rest of the book.

I have a fascination with cults but I’ll admit it was weird reading about a fictional cult for entertainment. This book was twisted & suspensful, some parts dragged on but overall I enjoyed it.

fiction about a religious cult. the author chose a particularly interesting narrator through a young and later pregnant teenager, a perspective rarely explored. the author took on a young persons’ naivety which was heavily influenced by the cult influence, but also explored well the resourcefulness and determination of the narrator. without planning to, I read this alongside Amanda Montell’s Cultish, which was helpful to identify how clever the manipulation of the cult leader was. equally, I enjoyed the influence of spirituality and how this co-responded with female empowerment. overall it was a unique text which I would recommend to any readers interested in cults, however I will provide a content warning as there are some rather uncomfortable scenes described.

Big TW for SA, but this book has so much heart and I loved the narrator so much. Couldn't put it down once I got into it.
